KNIGHTS OF EQUITY – COURT SIX – DETROIT The Knights of Equity is an Irish Catholic fraternal organization established in 1895. The K of E is among the oldest Irish-Catholic membership associations in America. During its first decade, the K of E had 65 local chapters, called "courts", stretching from Boston to Sioux City, Iowa. During its period of greatest influence, the K of E was an important Catholic political and fraternal benefit society. The early society organized Irish Catholics in America against discrimination, and gave financial aid to impoverished Irish immigrants. As their goals of non-discrimination, equal rights, and the financial security of Irish-Americans were accomplished over many decades, membership declined, and the social and philanthropic aspects of the organization gained increased importance. K of E Court 6 Detroit was formed in 1896. In 1924, the Court 6 donated their $250,000 “clubhouse”, located at the corner of Second & Fort St, to the University of Detroit. The donation established the Knights of Equity Scholarship Fund at the University of Detroit. Over the years, the scholarship program has awarded over $1 million dollars in scholarships, the scholarship program is still in operation today. In 1953 Court 6 opened a new home on Fenkell Ave in Detroit. For seven years in a row the governor of Michigan, G. Mennen Williams stopped by the hall & led an Irish Square Dance on St. Patrick’s Day. The governor also reviewed the K of E’s input regarding appointments for local judges. The K of E played a major role in the formation of The United Irish Societies, the organization that oversees Detroit’s St. Patrick’s Parade. After Fenkell, Court 6 also owned “clubhouses” on Schoolcraft Ave. in Detroit & Dix Ave in Lincoln Park. Currently Court 6 meets on the second Thursday of the month at the New AOH Hall on Five Mile in Redford. Mike Rouhan is the current Sir Knight. Annual activities for Court 6 include participation & support of Detroit’s St. Patrick’s Parade and the Motor City Irish Festival and the support of various charities. Members providing “Material Aid” to each other are one of the main purposes of The Knights of Equity – “Irish helping Irish”. Annual dues are $35.00. Please visit www.knightsofequity.com, contact knightsofequity@aol.com for membership information. Court 6 at Detroit’s 2012 Detroit’s St. Patrick’s Parade.

Turning your house to SOLD is what I do as a realtor with Century 21 Town & Country. I have a six-step approach which establishes a clear path and simplifies the entire selling process. A successful sale is more than getting the property sold. It is where I first make certain the sale gets to closing on time... on the client's time. Second, it is a smooth transaction with fewest problems and third, the property sells at a fair market value.
